Passion Projects
Social Refugees is a grassroots organization whose mission is 2-fold:
Our mission is to give those who are at risk, affected by, or suffering from issues associated with death, suicide, sexual harassment, and illness a voice through artistic expression and healing programming.
1. We partner our clients with mentor artists who guide clients through the creative process as they produce a body of work. We partner with the community to find avenues of exposure for our clients' stories. Through this exposure, we aim to inspire more community engagement, education, and further awareness of the issues that impact these groups.
2. We provide programming and educational opportunities for folx to engage with and work with their feelings, emotions, thoughts, and self-beliefs. We do this through programming that works with mindfulness, meditation, journaling, exercises, practices, and alternative modalities for healing.
How do we free ourselves from social conditions, misinformation, bigotry, and stereotypes? What are the tools we need for success? What are the issues we face that drag us down? How do we reclaim our happiness? How can we spread love and kindness? What is our true path, and does it even exist? Who am I? Where am I going? What is holding me back? How do we reclaim our true selves? Let's face it: life is hard. We get lost in the activities and stresses of daily life. We forget ourselves in the process of trying to "fit in." Our need to be accepted can push us off our path and can shape us in ways we didn't intend. Sooner or later, we all wake up to the fact that we don't know who we really are. Some of us take up the work of finding our way back home. Some of us don't. This is a community of searchers. We are looking for our authentic selves, and we discuss the things that try to take individuality and identity from us.
